The 1998-99 viewbook for Columbia
Universitys School of General Studies (GS) has been recognized for its cutting-edge
creativity in advertising and design in an annual international competition,
Creativity 28 Annual.
An informational resource for prospective
students of the GS school, the thirty-six page viewbook is innovative in its use of color,
photos, graphics, and overall organization, breaking from the traditional textual format. It is the product of a collaborative effort
between Di Vision Studio and the administrative staff of GS.
GS viewbook is one of the
award-winning works featured in a full-color, large-format book to be published later this
year. 7,000 artistic submissions were
evaluated in the competition which is noted for attracting the very best in new creative
work produced each year.
It is under the visionary leadership
of Peter Awn, Dean of the School of General Studies, that Columbia receives this
recognition, says Curtis Rodgers, GS Coordinator of Marketing. Indeed, since his arrival in 1997, Dean Awn has
refreshed the image of Columbias most non-traditional college through his active
campaign to represent the unique nature of the school to prospective students and the
Columbia community. In its 51st year, GS is
dedicated to the non-traditional
student, attracting motivated and fascinating adults who are either coming to school later
in life or have interrupted their education for a time and wish to return. Columbia University is the only ivy league school
which offers a unique program, fully integrated into the undergraduate arts and sciences.
